Candace Lewis, one of Robbinsdale Area Schools’ remarkable students, knows a thing or two about spelling.

The Northport Elementary School fourth-grader won the Robbinsdale Area Schools District Spelling Bee in her grade category for the second year in a row. The 10-year-old says that the keys to being good at spelling include believing in yourself, and pursuing learning because you enjoy it. Candace practiced “a lot” this year, with some help from Northport Principal Leona Derden.

“What I love about Candace is that even if I forgot about our study times, she would come find me, because that’s what we had agreed on,” Derden says. “This girl is the bomb. She brings such positivity to our school. She exemplifies courage, leadership and is a model. She puts her all into everything she does. You can tell this kid has what it takes – she’s going to be a doctor.”

“If you hang around positive people, you’ll have a positive future,” Candace adds.

Candace came to Northport from Liberia two years ago. She enjoys all of her subjects at schools, and wants to be a surgeon when she grows up. Candace is Robbinsdale. At Robbinsdale Area Schools, we value the differences that make all of our students unique. We approach our work with individual focus on each and every student’s infinite potential.

At Robbinsdale Area Schools, we invite all students to make their mark. Just like Candace. We are Robbinsdale Remarkable. #RASRemarkable
