Robbinsdale Area Schools is pleased to announce the award-winning Armstrong Marching Band has been accepted to perform in the Disney World Magic Kingdom Parade on December 28, 2019. The band has also been accepted to perform at the Outback Bowl Parade in Ybor City on New Year’s Eve, 2019, as well as the Outback Bowl Halftime Show on New Year’s Day, 2020, in Tampa Bay Florida.

“Former students return to say this Armstrong trip was one of the highlights of their high school career,” said Todd Burkholder, Armstrong Band Director.

This is Armstrong's fifth trip to Florida performing at Disney World and the New Year’s Day Outback Bowl in Tampa Bay. Other past trips for Armstrong’s Symphonic Band include performing at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii; a concert at Carnegie Hall in New York City; playing on the USS Midway Aircraft Carrier and with the US Marine Band in San Diego; performing jazz on a riverboat in St. Louis, MO; a trip to Arizona along with other regional trips to Chicago and Wisconsin Dells. The Armstrong Band Department has supported local celebrations by marching in the Golden Valley Days Parade, Plymouth on Parade, Minnesota State Fair and other community events.


The Armstrong band department includes marching band, freshman band, concert band, symphonic band, jazz bands, pep band, percussion ensemble, pit orchestra and participation in full orchestra. The Armstrong band program has consistently earned Superior Ratings at Large Group and Solo & Ensemble Contest in Region 6AA, was named Grand Champions of the 2012 Outback Bowl Festival and been awarded the Grand Champion Trophy at the Anoka Halloween Parade for 14 of the past 16 years, among other section awards.


Band and color guard students in grades 9-12 for the 2019-2020 school year are invited to sign up for the marching band trip. There will be an informational meeting in the Armstrong Auditorium on Thursday, April 11, at 7:00 pm.  Families unable to attend can access the information presented on the Armstrong Band Website after the meeting at: https://sites.google.com/rdale.org/armstrongband
