Armstrong Writing Center Provides Opportunity for Students to "Give Thanks"

The Armstrong Writing Center hosted a "Give Thanks" community building event earlier in November. Students had the opportunity to stop by and make a thank you card for a teacher or staff member. "This idea has been well received and we have had substantial participation from the student body," said Linnea Fischer, AHS writing center director and English department co-chair.

Adult Academic Students Thankful for Partnership with Senior Residents

The Robbinsdale Area Schools' Adult Academic Program (AAP) enjoys a cooperative partnership with Covenant Village of Golden Valley. AAP students visit on a regular basis to talk with senior residents about life, family, work, travel and more. The partnership is thanks to a grant which allows AAP English Language (EL) students to learn from senior residents about U.S. history, civics, family life and career opportunities while improving their English Language skills.

Armstrong junior Sara Shiff competed in Minnesota's Chapter of the prestigious National Association of Teachers of Singing competition at St. John's University in early November. Sara won her division - Early High School Women's Classical - while also advancing to the semi-finals of the Early High School Women's Musical Theater division.

FAIR Crystal SAIL Students Gain Skills at Leadership Conference

Fourteen 7th and 8th grade students from FAIR-Crystal were selected to attend the Students in Action Leadership Conference on Saturday, October 27, at the University of Minnesota. Students in Action is a program sponsored by the Jefferson Award Foundation aimed at helping youth develop a passion for creating community change, and building the skills and confidence needed to do it well. During the conference, students learned core and leadership skills.

Finance Update: Bond Refinance

More AP Scholars at Armstrong High School in 2018

There were 206 Scholars in 2018 compared to 188 for 2017. The College Board recognizes students who take 3 or more AP exams and score a 3 or higher on these exams as AP Scholars. Principal David Dahl says the increase is a result of a redesign of the English program at the school.

High School Students Earn CNA Certification Through Six-Week Summer Program

Eleven juniors and seniors recently participated in a six-week pilot program at Cooper High School to earn their Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification. They were interviewed and selected from a group of 30 applicants, and when these students earn their certification, they will be eligible for employment with Augustana Care.

Robbinsdale Area Schools recently opened a new Enrollment Center, located in the district offices at 4148 Winnetka Ave. N., New Hope. The center provides a more family-friendly, efficient and cost-effective enrollment/intake process for new enrollment in Robbinsdale Area Schools. This drop-in center is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Hands-on science learning at this year's Camp STEMtastic!

Launching model rockets, making slime and learning about chemical reactions are just a few of the things Robbinsdale Area Schools students are doing during this year's Camp STEMtastic. The two-week camp at Meadow Lake Elementary School is giving 200 students in grades K-5 a chance to learn about science through hands-on activities focusing on science, technology, engineering and math concepts.

RSIS K-3 Chess Team wins national championship
