Armstrong awarded Gene Haas Foundation Scholarship
The Gene Haas Foundation has awarded Armstrong High School (AHS) $19,000 to support student scholarships and the supermileage program.
A majority of the funding, $15,000, will go toward scholarships for students who are currently enrolled or will be enrolling in a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Technology training or CNC machining-based engineering program. The remaining $4,000 was given to the supermileage program to pay for costs associated with building vehicles and competing in two events. Geared toward those interested in super mileage and engineering, students in the program take classes in aerospace engineering, metals, small gas engines, or transportation engineering and driving supreme mileage cars in various competitions.
“I am a member of several manufacturing groups that tell me every meeting there is a shortage of qualified workers for their high-paying careers,” said Becker. “We have dozens of companies within 5 miles of the district that want to hire qualified people. The Gene Haas Foundation knows the importance of creating a pathway to high-paying careers with the lowest barrier to entry possible.”
Any interested students who plan to attend college for machine tool, computer aided drafting, or metallurgy and would like to be considered for a scholarship are encouraged to contact Luke Becker, agricultural science and technology at AHS, via email at luke_becker@rdale.org.
The Gene Haas Foundation aims to introduce and educate individuals for the field of manufacturing technologies, specifically CNC machining. The foundation also supports local organizations that help the quality of life for individuals within the community.
