Armstrong Quiz Bowl Team takes on Rdale’s School Board in friendly competition

It was all fun, facts, and friendly competition as the Robbinsdale Area Schools (Rdale) Board of Education faced off against the Armstrong High School (AHS) Quiz Bowl Team in a special exhibition match celebrating the joy of learning. 🎥 Watch the full match on YouTube.

The spirited event featured a mix of academic, pop culture, and general knowledge questions. The Board’s lineup included Chair Dr. Greta Evans-Becker, Vice Chair Caroline Long, Clerk ReNae Bowman, Treasurer Aviva Hillenbrand, and Superintendent Dr. Teri Staloch, each bringing their own areas of expertise (and sense of humor) to the table. Representing AHS were seniors Daniel Flores Jorgenson and Yonathan Getachew, junior Evie Johnson, and sophomore Rose Freiberg, who displayed teamwork, quick thinking, and an impressive depth of knowledge throughout the evening.

The AHS Quiz Bowl program, coached by State Representative Mike Freiberg (43B), made its return last school year after an eight-year hiatus. Freiberg, a proud Rdale parent, brought enthusiasm to the match as moderator, channeling his inner Alex Trebek with every question.

The team hasn’t competed in a tournament yet this year, but posted a 7–5 record last season, with Evie Johnson earning an invitation to a national tournament for top individual scorers.

Throughout the event, teams buzzed in for questions spanning science, history, literature, geography, and Minnesota trivia. Between rounds, light-hearted banter and laughter filled the room — especially as the Board team held their own against Armstrong’s sharp student competitors. (Final score: Armstrong 510, School Board 200.)
