Armstrong senior awarded $10,000 Lighthouse Guild scholarship

When Armstrong High School (AHS) senior Madeline Major learned she was a recipient of a $10,000 scholarship from Lighthouse Guild in New York City, excitement was her first emotion.

Major is one of 17 students from across the country to receive a scholarship from Lighthouse Guild this year. A co-president of the AHS Environmental Club, and a member of National Honor Society and Opera Club, she has been an engaged member of the Armstrong Class of 2025 with great aspirations for her future.

In the fall she plans to attend the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and double major in sociology and technical writing and communication, with a minor in business law. She hopes to go on to attend law school and pursue a career in the legal field.

“I look forward to exploring all of the different student organizations, opportunities, and resources that will be available to me at the U of M,” said Major. “I am excited to meet new people and hopefully study abroad.”

To other students looking for scholarships, she encourages them to “take advantage of opportunities available to you and apply for scholarships you qualify for even if they seem like a long shot.”
