With the fall sports season nearing an end at both Armstrong and Cooper high schools, here’s a look at who’s heading to state and how teams performed. This story will be updated as needed. (Note: the list is in order of state tournament dates.)
Girls tennis
The state girls tennis tournament was held Oct. 24-27 at the Baseline Tennis Center at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
- Armstrong and Cooper are in Section 5AA.
- Individually, AHS senior Peyton Erickson finished second in the section 5AA tournament, and made it to the first round of the state tournament.
- AHS’s season ended in the second round of the 5AA tournament. CHS did not compete in sections.
Boys soccer
The state boys soccer tournament was held Oct. 24-26 and Oct. 31-Nov. 3 at various locations until the semifinals and championship, which were held at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
- Armstrong is in Section 6AAA, and their season ended in the section semifinals.
- Cooper is in Section 5AA, and their season ended in the section quarterfinals.
Girls soccer
The state girls soccer tournament was held Oct. 24-26 and Oct. 31-Nov. 3 at various locations until the semifinals and championship, which were held at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.

Armstrong and Cooper are a joint (co-op) team, and are in Section 6AAA. Their season ended in the section quarterfinals.
Boys cross country
The state cross country meet was held Nov. 4 at the University of Minnesota’s Les Bolstad Golf Course, in Falcon Heights.
- Armstrong is in Class AAA, Section 6. No individuals nor the team qualified for state at the section meet held Oct. 25.
- Cooper is in Class AA, Section 6. No individuals nor the team qualified for state at the section meet held Oct. 26.
Girls cross country
The state cross country meet was held Nov. 4 at the University of Minnesota’s Les Bolstad Golf Course, in Falcon Heights.
- Armstrong is in Class AAA, Section 6. While the team didn’t qualify for state at the section meet held Oct. 25, senior Caitlyn Osanai won the section title and finished 7th at state. Senior Avery Cuper finished 16th in the section meet, and 67th at state.
- Cooper is in Class AA, Section 6. Cooper is in Class AA, Section 6. No individuals nor the team qualified for state at the section meet held Oct. 26.
Football
The state football tournament was held Nov. 9-11, 16-18 and 24-25 at various locations until the semifinals and championship, which will be held at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
- Armstrong beat Cooper Nov. 3 in the section 5AAAAA championship game, 49-14 to advance to state. They ultimately lost to Andover, 37-10, in the state quarterfinals on Nov. 11.
Girls volleyball
The state girls volleyball tournament was held Nov. 8-11 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
- Armstrong is in Section 5AAAA, and their season ended in the section quarterfinals.
- Cooper is in Section 5AAA, and their season ended in the section quarterfinals.
Girls swimming and diving
The state girls swimming and diving meet will be held Nov. 16-18 at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
- Armstrong won the Class AA, Section 6 title and will compete at state.
- Individual results:
- Lucia Freed was 1st in the 200 individual medley and in the 100 backstroke
- Ella Colley was 1st in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle.
- Maya Fadlalla finished 2nd in the 50 freestyle and 3rd in the 100 freestyle.
- Joy Van Laarhoven qualified for state in the 100 butterfly.
- Natale Gustafson won the 500 freestyle and 3rd in the 200 freestyle.
- The team also won the 200 and 400 freestyle relays.
- Cooper is in Class A, Section 2. No individuals nor the team qualified for state at the section meet held Nov. 9-11.
Adapted soccer
The state adapted soccer cognitive impairment (CI) and physical impairment (PI) tournaments will be held Nov. 17-18 at Stillwater High School.
- Armstrong and Cooper are joint (co-op) teams with Hopkins and Mound Westonka, and called the Robbins. They’re in Class A, Section 1.
- The PI team won the regular season championship, and are the No. 1 seed in the state tournament.
- The CI team didn’t qualify for state.
