Robbinsdale Area Schools Celebrates as High School Student Journalism Program Takes Top Honors

Cooper High School’s student newspaper, The Quill, was honored with two awards for the nine issues published last school year.

  • The Quill won an International Second Place Award from the Quill and Scroll Society. Included in this recognition was an Excellent rating for Writing and Editing, and an Excellent rating for General Practices.
  • The Quill also received an All-State Silver Award from the Journalism Educators of Minnesota. This award was in acknowledgement of excellence in writing, editing, photography and design of a high school newspaper.

“Despite a challenging year that saw us shift from a print publication we wrote and assembled in a face-to-face learning environment to a digital publication that we wrote and assembled virtually during distance learning, The Quill staff worked tirelessly to produce a consistently professional product,” said Eric Zuccola newspaper advisor, teacher and coach at Cooper. “I am pleased our student’s considerable efforts have been recognized with these awards.”

The Quill has won international and state awards in previous years. Each school year, more than 15 students work on creating nine issues of the newspaper. The first issue of this school year will be published on Nov. 6.
